A small craft advisory is in effect for Long Island's ocean waters, the National Weather Service said Monday in its marine forecast.
The advisory covers Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point and Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet through Monday afternoon; and from Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to Fire Island Inlet to 11 a.m., the service's Upton office said.
Winds from the east and southeast from 15 to 20 knots with gusts up to 25 knots are likely for these ocean waters, with waves 3 to 5 feet and subsiding later, the service said.
Rainy conditions are expected to last through Tuesday morning, with conditions relaxing by the nighttime hours, the service said, with "wind and seas expected to remain below small craft levels through Friday."
Inland weather across Long Island Monday calls for periods of rain, at times heavy, with daily highs in the mid to upper 60s.
