WASHINGTON - A person close to the Chandra Levy case saysinvestigators are preparing an arrest warrant for a 27-year-oldSalvadoran immigrant.
This person tells The Associated Press that Ingmar Guandique'sarrest is imminent and that an official announcement is expectedsoon. The source was not authorized to discuss the case publiclyand spoke on condition of anonymity.
Levy is the government intern who disappeared from Washington,D.C., in 2001. Her remains were later found in Washington's RockCreek Park.
Authorities questioned a congressman who was having an affairwith Levy. Gary Condit was not considered a suspect but thenegative publicity from the case was cited as a main reason the
California lawmaker lost re-elected in 2002.
Guandique has denied any involvement in Levy's disappearance andkilling. Guandique was convicted of attacking two women in RockCreek Park shortly after Levy disappeared.
