A two-vehicle crash left one driver dead and another injured Tuesday morning in Rocky Point, police said.

The driver who survived the crash, Sean Carpenter, 25, of Medford, was driving a 2002 Subaru Outback south on Rocky Point-Yaphank Road shortly before 5:50 a.m. “when his vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes” and hit a 1991 Nissan Sentra, Suffolk County police said.

The Sentra’s driver, Jose Amaya, 55, of Medford, was pronounced dead at the scene, which was about 1 mile north of Whiskey Road, police said.

Carpenter was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.

The crash is under investigation, and the vehicles involved were impounded for safety checks, police said.

Seventh Squad detectives urge anyone with information about the crash to call them at 631-852-8752.
