2 face DWI in separate Riverhead crashes

Two people have been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in separate accidents late Saturday and early Sunday in Riverhead, authorities said.

At 11:20 p.m. Saturday, two vehicles collided at 1212 East Main St., Riverhead police said. One vehicle left the scene. The other, driven by Byron Juares, 21, was disabled, police said.

Juares was arrested and charged with DWI and his vehicle was towed away. The other driver was found later, but no arrest was made, police said. Police did not have residence information for Juares available.

Early Sunday, N.Y. State Troopers arrested a Riverhead man after his vehicle hit another head-on at East Main Street and Segal Avenue.

Troopers said they arrested Cornelio Lopez, 31, and charged him with driving while intoxicated. He and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment of injuries.

Troopers said the vehicle Lopez hit had been rear-ended earlier in the night in a separate incident, but they could not provide details.
