Two people were shot in incidents about 1 1/2 hours apart in Copiague early Monday and now Suffolk County police are trying to determine if the shootings are connected.
Police said the first incident took place during an altercation outside a 7-Eleven store on Oak Street at 1:35 a.m.
A man was shot in the hand in that incident.
The second shooting was reported at 2:58 a.m. after a man was found bleeding from a gunshot wound to his arm outside a Laundromat on Great Neck Road. That scene, located just north of Oak Street, is less than a 1/2 mile from the first incident.
Photos from the scene of the first incident, which was reported by a 911 caller who police said had heard shots fired, showed the unidentified victim being placed onto an ambulance stretcher for transport to a hospital. Police had no information on the condition of that victim. Police said the second victim, whose identity also was not released, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.
His condition also was unknown.
Police said First Squad detectives are investigating to determine if the two incidents are connected.
