Five men out porgy fishing off Northport Harbor had to be towed into port after their boat's battery died, leaving them high and dry for hours, police said.
None of the men, ages 30 to 70 years old, were injured.
Suffolk County police said the incident was reported in a 911 call at about 2 a.m. Tuesday. A Suffolk marine unit and an aviation unit were dispatched to the scene, as was a rescue boat from the Northport Fire Department and a U.S. Coast Guard vessel. The disabled boat was located by the aviation unit and was later towed to a boat ramp by the Coast Guard, police said.
The size of the boat involved was not immediately clear.
The identities of the men involved were not released. Police said all of the fishermen were wearing life jackets and said none ever went into the water. All declined medical attention at the scene.
