Robbers fire shots, assault employees during 7-Eleven robbery

Robbers fired two shots into the ceiling and assaulted two employees as they held up a 7-Eleven in North Lindenhurst Sunday, Suffolk police said Monday.

The robbers punched or struck the employees with the gun and fired into the ceiling before escaping with cash from the North Wellwood Avenue store about 10:50 p.m., said Det. Lt. Robert Edwards of the First Precinct.

It was not clear if the robbers ran off or drove away, he said.

The workers were treated for minor injuries and released from a hospital, police said.

Detectives have been canvassing homes and businesses nearby for surveillance video and possible witnesses, including any customers who might have seen the robbery and left, Edwards said.

"A lot of times what happens . . . is somebody comes in, sees what's going out and somebody comes out," he said.

Anyone with information may call 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
