Four-year-old boy drowns in backyard pool in Bay Shore, police say

A 4-year-old boy drowned in a backyard pool at his Bay Shore home Monday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

Adrian Schrone was found unresponsive in a semi-inground pool at his home on Prospect Place about 1:15 p.m., police said. Adults were in the home at the time and tried giving the boy CPR, then took him to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead.

A woman who answered a cellphone listed for the homeowner declined to comment or answer questions last night.

There have been at least three other pool drownings on Long Island this summer, including another 4-year-old boy who drowned in a backyard pool in Shirley in June while attending a barbecue with his mother, Suffolk police said at the time.
