East Northport woman trying to evade Suffolk police in critical condition after Hauppauge crash, officials say

An East Northport woman trying to evade Suffolk police was in critical condition Sunday after driving into a utility pole and then a tree in Hauppauge, police said.

The driver was identified as Alyssa Leppert, 22.

According to a Suffolk County police report, the crash occurred about 4:45 p.m. Saturday, five minutes after an officer attempted to pull Leppert over in a cul-de-sac on Kurt Lane.

Police said she was driving a Chevrolet TrailBlazer erratically and tried to evade the officer by crossing the lawns of several houses to get back onto Route 111.

Police said Leppert continued driving north on Route 111 until she lost control and struck the utility pole and tree about 20 yards south of Route 347. The vehicle came to a rest at Veterans Memorial Highway, Route 454.

Leppert was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital. No charges had been filed against her on Sunday.

Police were investigating and no other information was available Sunday evening.
