A 53-year-old Bohemia man was shot to death during a home invasion by two masked men who forced their way into the house and demanded money just after midnight Monday, police said.

Suffolk County police said three people were in the home on Sycamore Avenue., but said the other two were uninjured. It was unclear if the house was targeted or the if the break-in was random.

Police identified the dead man as Steven Privitera.

They said he was shot in the abdomen and later died at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. They did not say how many times he was shot.

A neighbor, Bob DeMott, 63, who said he was a retired NYPD officer, said: "This is Bohemia. My sons call it boring Bohemia. Nothing happens here. Now it's going to be lock the doors and all that."

The incident was reported in a 911 call at 12:28 a.m., police said, the caller telling them someone had suffered a "possible gunshot wound."

Homicide detectives are on the scene and investigating.
