Brentwood woman seriously injured in hit-and-run accident

Police are investigating a Brentwood hit-and-run car accident that left a 19-year-old woman seriously injured on Saturday night.

The victim, Cindy Jesmin Estrada of Brentwood, was struck by a white sport utility vehicle while she walked across Suffolk Avenue near Park Avenue, police said. The force of the crash tossed Estrada into traffic, where she was hit by another car, police said.

The driver of the SUV fled the scene while the second driver, Michele Alier of Central Islip, stopped.

Police said they are searching for the driver for the SUV and that it is unlikely Alier will face charges.

Estrada was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where she is being treated for injuries, which are not considered life threatening, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the crash to call 854-8352 or 1-800-220-TIPS. Calls will remain confidential, police said.
