Brookhaven officials disabled the town’s website Sunday to determine if it had been accessed by a pro-ISIS group.

Team System Dz posted on its Facebook page that it had hacked the town’s website and those of several Ohio state government departments, including the office of Gov. John Kasich. The breaches to disseminate pro-ISIS statements were first reported Sunday by NBC affiliate WKYC in Cleveland.

The messages, including “You will be held accountable Trump, you and all your people for every drop of blood flowing in Muslim countries,” were printed in black and white, and accompanied by music.

“Clearly this is disturbing. We’re going to be asking Homeland Security to do an investigation,” Brookhaven Town Supervisor Edward P. Romaine said Sunday after being told of the page on the town’s official website. “Obviously, all of America is at risk when you can cyberhack a government.”

Town officials haven’t confirmed the website was attacked, but shut it down as a precaution, Romaine said.

“We want to come up with preventative measures to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future,” he said.

The Team System Dz pro-ISIS page was hidden within the town’s existing web pages.

“We are actively investigating this matter,” Town Councilman Dan Panico said. “We’re going to be working with all governmental agencies.”

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) offered his assistance to the town’s investigation.

“While we are still waiting on more intel as to this pro-ISIS hack, I have been in touch with Brookhaven Town Deputy Supervisor and Councilman Dan Panico and offered to assist in any way possible with regards to securing necessary support and resources from the federal government,” Zeldin said in an emailed statement. “I will continue to do anything in my power to improve cyber security and protect against other threats facing our nation at home and abroad.”

Team System Dz has in recent years boasted on its Facebook page of hacking a variety of government websites around the world.
