The Town of Brookhaven's first Green Energy and Sustainability Fair was held Saturday to show ways homes and businesses can operate in a greener, cleaner and more cost-effective way.

About 200 people attended the free event, which ran from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Town Hall in Farmingville.

Included were some popular electric car rides and more than 20 vendors.

Guest speakers, industry experts and informative breakout sessions were also part of the day.

"It's our first but not our last," Town Supervisor Edward P. Romaine said of the energy fair. "We're doing it to promote moving away from fossil fuel and reducing our carbon footprint."
