A Brentwood driver fleeing police threw bags of white powder out of the window Tuesday and started a chase that ended more than 3 miles away when a tire broke off his car, Suffolk police said.

Camilo Tatis, 28, was stopped by police in his Hyundai on Connetquot Avenue in Islip Terrace just after noon, but when the two officers started getting out of their car, he sped off, police said.

After throwing out the white powder, Tatis drove through a fence at Connetquot and Westbury Street in East Islip, went east on Sunrise Highway, then got off at the next exit, Montauk Highway, police said.

On his way toward Brook Street in Oakdale, he sideswiped a sport utility vehicle and was trying to make a left onto Brook when he lost a tire on his Hyundai, police said.

Tatis, of 74 Bradley St., was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlawful fleeing a police officer, criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.

Other details were not immediately available.
