A Bay Shore man crossing the street died after being struck by a vehicle on a Bay Shore street Wednesday night, Suffolk police said.

Arquimides Barrera, 70, was struck on Fifth Avenue, near Jensen Road, at about 5:45 p.m. by a southbound Jeep Cherokee driven by Blanca Fuentes, 29, of North Bay Shore, police said.

Barrera was taken by Brentwood Legion Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead. police said.

Fuentes, 29, was not injured and remained at the scene, police said. Her vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.

Police said no summonses or charges were issued in the crash.

Third Precinct detectives ask anyone with information on the crash to call them at 631-854-8352.
