A teenager trying to cross Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station late Wednesday had serious injuries after being struck by a car, Suffolk County police said.
Carlos Veliz-Hernandez, 15, of Huntington Station was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition, police said.
Veliz-Hernandez was walking on the turnpike at about 9:15 p.m. when he tried to cross about 30 feet west of Melville Road, police said.
He was then hit by a 2008 BMW driven by Jeanne Erra, 56, also of Huntington Station.
Police in a news release provided no further details on the nature of Veliz-Hernandez's injuries. Erra was not injured.
The BMW was impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing, police said.
