Pests may have hitched rides on Christmas trees

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) called for $17.5 million in federal funding Monday to help New York stop the spread of the spotted lanternfly. Schumer said eggs of the spotted lanternfly, which have a taste for grape vines, fruit trees and local forests, might have hitched rides to Long Island on cut Christmas trees trucked in from out of state.
