A Rocky Point woman is facing charges that she drove drunk with her 13-year-old daughter in the car Friday night in Yaphank, Suffolk County police said.
Colleen Lopez, 47, was driving a 2003 Chevy Tahoe at 8:40 p.m. on Patchogue Yaphank Road when she was pulled over by a patrol officer assigned to Suffolk's DWI enforcement unit.
An investigation by the officer revealed that Lopez was under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Lopez was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years old or younger, also known as Leandra's Law, along with endangering the welfare of a child. The teen was released to a family member, police said.
Leandra's Law is named for Leandra Rosado, 11, who was killed Oct. 11, 2009, in a DWI accident after the minivan in which she was a passenger crashed on the West Side Highway in Manhattan.
The teen was turned over to another adult, police said.
Lopez is being held at the Sixth Precinct and will be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
