A 40-year-old worker was in critical condition Tuesday after he was trapped inside conveyor belt machinery at a Baiting Hollow plant, Riverhead police said.
A co-worker managed to pull out the worker, who got stuck in what police said was “the conveyor belt housing” of a screener that sifts soil.
The worker “lost consciousness while inside the small opening,” the police statement said.
CPR was being performed on the stricken worker, according to the person who placed an emergency call to the police shortly after noon, the Riverhead Police Department said.
The injured worker was being treated at Peconic Bay Medical Center, they said.
The accident, which the police are investigating, occurred at of BGLJ Servicing Corp., they said.
A company representative was not immediately available.
An Occupational Safety and Health Administration representative also was not immediately available.
