A 77-year-old woman who wasn't breathing and whose heart had stopped was saved by a quick-thinking Suffolk County police officer armed with a defibrillator Sunday.
First Precinct officer Peter Cucchiara responded to a 911 on Whalen Street in North Babylon, at 5:19 p.m. to find the woman unresponsive, police said. He used an Automated External Defibrillator to shock the woman back to life - and she was later transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.
Police did not identify the woman. Her condition also was not immediately known Monday. It was unclear if the woman had a history of medical problems or what had led to the emergency.
