Cops: 2 students hurt in school minibus accident

Two special-needs students suffered minor injuries when the school minibus they were traveling in was hit by a car that ran a red light Friday morning in Hauppauge, causing the bus to overturn, police said.

The two students, whose ages and identities were not released, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, Suffolk County police said.

Police said no other students were on the bus, which overturned after a collision with a Lincoln Town Car on Hoffman Lane at 8:25 a.m. Neither the bus driver nor the driver of the car was injured in the crash, police said.

Police said the driver of the Lincoln, whose identity also was not released, was issued a summons for running a red light. The crash closed Hoffman between Woods Edge Court and Motor Parkway. It was not clear how long the road would remain closed.

Police said it was not known what district or school was served by the bus involved -- and said they had not yet identified the bus operator.
