Two West Babylon teenagers were arrested Wednesday and charged with stabbing a 21-year-old man during a 30-person melee last week at an East Islip parking lot, police said.
Henry Castillo, 18, of 913 Hertzel Blvd., and Alex Reyes, 19, of 74 Matthews Ave., were each charged with second-degree assault.
The injured man is recovering at home now, police said, but he was initially taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where spent several days receiving treatment for serious injuries to his lungs, spleen and liver.
Det. Sgt. William Rand said Castillo and Reyes each stabbed the victim once in the back during the brawl, and while others were hurt during that melee, he was the most seriously injured.
The initial dispute was rumored to have been between two male teens over a girl, police said, but "whatever it was, it started two or three days prior, culminating in everybody meeting in the parking lot later on," Rand said.
At least two carloads of people arrived at the East Islip Lanes parking lot on Montauk Highway and Greenwood Avenue shortly before midnight Dec. 14, armed with knives, baseball bats, machetes and ax handles to confront another group that was already there, police said.
Castillo and Reyes were to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court, Central Islip. Third Squad detectives were conducting the investigation.
