A suspected arson fire caused extensive damage to a car parked in the driveway of an unoccupied home in North Amityville early Friday, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the fire, handled by volunteers from the North Amityville Fire Department, also caused minor exterior damage to the house on Steele Place. The fire was reported at shortly after midnight, police said.

Police said residents of the house were not home at the time of the fire, which is why it is a suspected arson. Detectives from the Arson Squad are investigating the cause of the blaze, which police said engulfed a 2003 Infiniti.

There were no reported injuries in the blaze.
