An early morning fire Monday that severely damaged a house in Ronkonkoma appears noncriminal, police said, after a preliminary investigation by arson squad detectives.

Suffolk County police said there were no reported injuries in the blaze at the home on Expressway Drive North, which was reported at 12:40 a.m.

Fire officials said volunteers from departments in Lakeland, Ronkonkoma, Nesconset, Holtsville, Holbrook, Central Islip and Hauppauge battled the blaze for several hours. Police said the house was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The blaze forced authorities to briefly close Expressway Drive North at Pamlico Avenue. Additional details on the probable cause of the fire were not immediately available.
