Cops: Bank teller stages Coram bank robbery

A Brentwood bank teller and a Patchogue man are under arrest and face grand larceny charges after falsely reporting a robbery early Sunday at a Citizens Bank branch in Coram, police said.

Suffolk County police believe that teller Herminia Arevalo, 25, of Bergin Street, picked up Lorenzo Palma Salinas, 51, of North Ocean Avenue, earlier in the day at a day laborer location.

The two arranged, police said, for Salinas to approach Arevalo with a note demanding cash. Arevalo would hand over money, police said, and the pair would meet later to split the stolen cash.

Officers responded to a report of a bank robbery at the Citizens Bank branch on 294 Middle Country Rd. at 11:31 a.m. They were given a description of the robber, told he had produced a note and ordered a teller to give him cash.

Witnesses directed officers to a nearby McDonald's, where they found Salinas with the cash and note on him. Detectives were suspicious and Arevalo, the teller, admitted under questioning that the two had conspired.

They will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.
