Cops: Child fell off boat, airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital

A 2-year-old boy was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital late Wednesday morning after falling off a boat at the Montauk Lake Club and Marina, East Hampton Town police said.

The toddler, who is from East Hampton, was “conscious and alert” when he was taken to the hospital, Capt. Chris Anderson of the East Hampton Town police, said.

His condition was not immediately known.

Police said the 11:13 a.m. 911 call reported “a small child had fallen off a boat” at the marina on East Lake Drive, which provides access from sheltered Lake Montauk to the Block Island Sound.

Anderson said that the boy was with his mother at the time that he fell. It’s unclear how he ended up in the water.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the child “on land, CPR in progress.” A crew from Montauk Ambulance transported the child to East Hampton Airport where a Medevac helicopter flew him to Stony Brook, police said.
