Cops: Cold Spring Harbor man charged with DWAI after crash

A 22-year-old Cold Spring Harbor man faces a charge of driving while impaired by drugs after a one-car crash over the weekend that left him with a broken ankle and injured his four teenage passengers, Suffolk County police said.

William Kearns of 170 Main St. was driving a 2010 Mercedes-Benz east on Fairway Place when he failed to turn at the end of the road and struck a tree head-on in front of Poplar Street in Cold Spring Harbor, police said.

The crash occurred at about 4:20 a.m. early Saturday, police said.

The crash injured four minors: Joseph Mardovich, 16, of Lloyd Harbor, and Emily Marx, 17, of Huntington, were transported to Huntington Hospital and were treated for non-life-threatening injuries; Victoria Ramano, 16, of Lloyd Neck, and Brian Kearns, 17, the brother of the driver, were treated at Syosset Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said William Kearns was charged with DWAI / drugs and is scheduled for arraignment at a later date. The investigation is ongoing.
