Cops: Crash briefly cuts power in Mattituck

A livery van driver who told police she fell asleep behind the wheel crashed into two utility poles on Route 25 in Mattituck early Monday, briefly knocking out power in the area, Southold Town police said.

Police said the driver, Katherine Lobbe, 53, of Kings Park, suffered minor injuries.

She was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport by the Mattituck Fire Department, police said.

One passenger was in the van when it crashed at 5:09 a.m. near New Suffolk Avenue.

Police said that passenger, identified as Georgia Panagopoulas, 51, of East Marion, was not injured in the crash.

Police said the driver said she fell asleep and that the van left the road, crashing into two utility poles -- snapping the second one in half.

No charges were filed.
