Cops: Dix Hills motorcyclist hurt in crash

A Dix Hills man was seriously injured after he was thrown from the motorcycle he was riding Saturday night, police said.

Suffolk County Police said Lance Russell was riding a 2011 Yamaha motorcycle south on Carlls Straight Path in Dix Hills, when he crossed the double yellow line to pass vehicles going south. Russell then collided with a 2005 Ford dump truck, operated by Joseph Femia, who was turning left into his driveway about 5:16 p.m.

Russell, 23, of Carlls Straight Path, was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered serious injuries, police said. Russell was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip by Dix Hills Rescue Company, police said.

Femia, 47, of Carlls Straight Path, Dix Hills, was not injured, police said.

Motor Carrier Safety Section responded and performed a safety inspection on the dump truck. The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check, police said.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
