Cops: DWI charge for driver asleep at wheel

An Amityville man was arrested and charged with drunken driving after police said officers found him asleep at the wheel of his car -- stopped at a light, engine running -- early Sunday in Northampton.

William Washington, 29, was charged with driving while intoxicated after his arrest by Southampton Town police at 6:12 a.m. Arraignment details were not available.

Police said officers found Washington asleep behind the wheel of his car, which was stopped at the intersection of Lakeview Drive and Lake Avenue. An investigation determined he was intoxicated, according to police.
