Maybe it was for love -- of money, that is.
Nevertheless, the search is on for a man and woman who police said broke into a countertop jewelry display case earlier this month at Macy's in Bay Shore, stealing two rings valued at $1,200.
The couple left behind some compelling evidence, Suffolk County police said. They were captured on in-store video surveillance cameras. Now, police are hoping the public can help identify the pair -- and are asking that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, and callers are eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to an arrest.
The theft took place at the Macy's at the Westfield South Shore Mall at about 4 p.m. Nov. 5, police said. Two white gold rings with diamonds were stolen.
