Suffolk County police are investigating a Thursday crash that killed a man crossing the Lindenhurst street on which he lived.

Xu Jingeng was attempting to cross West Hoffman Avenue, between South Broadway and South Fourth Street, at about 6:30 p.m. when he was hit by a westbound 2006 Lexus sport utility vehicle driven by Agnieszka Chelchowski, police said.

Jingeng, 48, of Lindenhurst, was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.

Chelchowski, 34, of Lindenhurst, remained at the scene; she was not injured, police said.

Her car was impounded for a safety check, and the investigation is continuing, according to police.
