A Lindenhurst mother who left her children home unattended for hours Tuesday was arrested and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Suffolk police said.
Dora Garcia was to be held overnight for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court, Central Islip. Garcia's sons, aged 17 months and 5 years, was placed in the custody of Suffolk Child Protective Services, police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call to the home on 44th Street at 11:33 a.m. and found the children, police said. When Garcia returned home at about 1:10 p.m., she was arrested. Investigators said they believe the children were by themselves for several hours before the officers arrived.
Investigators asked that anyone with information concerning the case call the First Precinct at 631-854-8100 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
