Cops: Man, 81, killed in Center Moriches crash wasn't wearing seat belt

An 81-year-old East Quogue man killed in a two-car crash in Center Moriches was the only person involved not wearing a seat belt, Suffolk County police said.

Edward Goehring was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Frowein Road, which left four others wounded Monday, police said.

Police said Goehring was a passenger in a 2006 Ford Taurus driven by Florence Soah, 67, of Hampton Bays. Soah tried to turn left at the intersection with Railroad Avenue and was hit on the passenger side by a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Johanna Forney, 17, of Eastport.

The crash occurred at about 3 p.m., police said.

Soah, Forney and two passengers in her car were injured and taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, all in stable condition.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
