Cops: Aquebogue man charged in string of East End home burglaries

An Aquebogue man was arrested Friday and charged in a series of residential burglaries dating to October, according to Riverhead Town police.

Peter Gevinski Jr., 26, was taken into custody shortly after 11 a.m. at the Riverhead Criminal Court building and charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and one count of third-degree grand larceny.

Police said Gevinski was responsible for at least three burglaries on Suffolk County's East End in the past seven months.

In the first incident on Oct. 12, Gevinski broke into a home on Ziemacki Lane in Jamesport and stole a safe containing jewelry and cash, police said.

On Feb. 5, Gevinski entered a home on Hilton Court in Aquebogue and took jewelry, authorities said.

In the most recent incident on May 1, Gevinski broke into a home on Windy Acres in Jamesport and stole jewelry and cash, police said.

Gevinski was arraigned in Riverhead Justice Court on Friday and remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail, police said.
