Cops: Man found on street was victim of fatal hit-run

A man found unconscious in the street near his Bay Shore home early Saturday died Sunday, and now police are saying he was the victim of a hit-and-run.

Gregory Prince, 56, of Martinstein Avenue, was found by a family member just after 1 a.m. Saturday, Suffolk County police said. It was unclear, at first, what happened to Prince, who lived a few houses from the scene.

But police said they soon determined he had been the victim of a hit-and-run. They said he died Sunday as the result of head injuries suffered in the crash. They are searching for the driver who him hit.

Police are asking that anyone with information contact Third Squad detectives at 631-854-8352 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
