Officers responding to a 911 call early Monday morning found a man shot to death inside a parked car in Brentwood, Suffolk County police said.

The 911 call reported "a man injured inside a vehicle with bullet holes through the car window," police said. Police said that Third Precinct officers responding to the call at 6:20 a.m. found the victim shot to death inside a Nissan Sentra parked in the 100 block of Twinlawns Avenue.

Police will not release the identity of the victim until family is notified.

Investigators are asking anyone with information regarding the fatal shooting to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.

The man, according to a neighbor, moved into the home on Twinlawns Avenue four or five months ago. The neighbor said the victim was a landscaper who rented a room in the two-story vinyl-sided home, lived alone and kept to himself.

The neighbor, who would not identify himself because police have not caught the shooter, said he did not know the victim's name but said the man was from El Salvador and in his 30s.

Another neighbor said he was getting ready to go to work and went out to his driveway to turn the car on before quickly going back into his home when shots rang out.

"We heard about six or seven shots," said the neighbor, who did not want to identify himself and did not know the victim's name. He said his brother-in-law had called police.
