Miller Place woman drowns in backyard pool, police say

A Miller Place woman drowned in her backyard pool Tuesday night, Suffolk police said.

Erin Attard, 54, was found unresponsive at about 8 p.m. by her husband in the semi-inground pool at their Radio Avenue home, police said.

Rocky Point Fire Department firefighters transported her to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, where efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful, police said.

Attard got into the pool at about 7 p.m., police said.

Homicide detectives are investigating, but Attard’s death does not appear to be criminal, police said.

Detectives said Attard had health issues and an autopsy by the county medical examiner’s office will determine a cause of death.
