A 27-year-old motorcyclist died Friday night after colliding with a minivan on Walt Whitman Road in Huntington Station, Suffolk County police said.

The victim, identified as Brett Rainey of Huntington Station, was taken to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. when Rainey was riding a 2000 Yamaha northbound on Walt Whitman Road and struck a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country minivan being driven by Lucas McAfee, 18, of Fort Salonga.

McAfee was traveling southbound on Walt Whitman Road and attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot when Rainey struck the front passenger side of the minivan.

McAfee and his three male passengers were not injured. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation was continuing, police said.
