An Oceanside man was arrested Thursday after State Police said he led a trooper on a short pursuit, then attempted to flee on foot, after a minor accident on Route 231 in Deer Park.
Ivan Torres, 34, was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing, second-degree reckless endangerment, possession of a hypodermic needle and driving while ability-impaired by drugs.
Torres was later also charged by Suffolk County police with third-degree grand larceny in connection with what State Police said was the theft of jewelry from a store in Sayville. Details of that theft were not available Friday.
Police said that Torres, driving a 2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer reported stolen earlier in day in Nassau County, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 231 when he was involved in a minor accident at about 4:20 p.m.
He then led a trooper on a short pursuit on the Southern State Parkway before attempting to flee on foot.
Police said Torres was eventually found with the assistance of a Suffolk K-9 unit that tracked him to Kime Avenue in West Islip.
Arraignment details were not immediately available.
