Cops: Officer, EMT help Babylon woman deliver baby at home

A Babylon woman started her weekend by going into labor at home. Luckily, she got a much-needed assist from a pair of first responders.

The result, police said, was a healthy baby boy born early Saturday inside the home on Whalers Cove.

Shortly before 4 a.m., Suffolk police First Precinct Officer Weldon Drayton responded to a 911 call reporting the 34-year-old woman was at home when she went into labor, officials said.

Drayton, along with an EMT from the Babylon Fire Department, helped the mother deliver the baby at 4:08 a.m.

Both mother and infant were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip by the Babylon Fire Department.

Police did not provide the names of the mother or baby and no other details were immediately available.
