Two men posing as utility company employees forced their way inside a Medford home Monday, assaulting and robbing the occupants, Suffolk police said.
One victim, who was struck with a handgun, was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was treated and released, police said. The other resident was also assaulted but was not taken to the hospital.
The gunmen, wearing dark clothing, arrived at the home on Boston Street at 11:20 a.m., claiming to be from the gas company, police said. They offered no credible credentials, police said, but displayed a piece of paper that said something in reference to the utility that did not convince the occupants.
The robbers then forced their way in, police said, and armed with handguns and an electrical stun gun, assaulted the two occupants before fleeing with stolen cash.
Detectives asked that anyone with information regarding this crime contact the Fifth Squad at 631-852-8552 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
