Cops: Patchogue man killed in one-car crash

A Patchogue man died in a one-car crash after police said his vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree on Waverly Avenue Sunday night.

Suffolk County police Monday identified the victim as Kelly Charles, 49.

Police said Charles was driving his 2013 Nissan Altima south on Waverly when he crashed near West 2nd Street in Patchogue at 10:18 p.m.

He was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the car was impounded for a safety check.

Detectives ask anyone with information regarding the crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
