Cops say spike strips stop drunken driver

A 23-year-old Wyandanch man was arrested late Monday night and charged with drunken driving after a pursuit that police said ended when officers deployed spike strips to stop his car in Center Moriches.

Ryan Davidson was charged with driving while intoxicated, fleeing of a police officer and false personation, Suffolk County police said. He faces arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Central Islip.

Police said the incident began about 11:30 p.m. when officers saw a 2007 Toyota Matrix driven by Davidson weaving on County Road 51 in Manorville -- and officers attempted to make a traffic stop.

Instead, police said, Davidson fled. The spike strips were deployed a short time later at an unspecified location, blowing out the tires on the car and forcing it to stop.

Police said Davidson initially gave them a fake name, leading to the false personation charge.
