Police are offering a reward and asking for the public's help in finding a man who punched a bartender last month in Smithtown, breaking his jaw.

The bartender was sitting in the patio of Napper Tandy's Irish Pub on East Main Street at 3 a.m. May 25 when a patron suddenly punched him without a word, said Officer James McQuade of the Fourth Precinct crime section.

"He was defenseless," McQuade said. "His teeth had to be wired shut for six weeks. He broke his jaw in two places."

Police believe the assault was the result of a "minor dispute" earlier between the bartender and the patron's girlfriend.

McQuade said the couple then ran off on East Main Street.

The man in the photo is wanted for assault and the woman for questioning, police said.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
