He broke into a doctor's office, stealing gift cards worth about $850, police said.

What he didn't know, however, was that the alleged theft was captured by a surveillance camera, which took a picture of him, flashlight in hand, as he combed through a cabinet looking for goods to take.

Suffolk County police are asking the public's help in identifying the suspect from the surveillance photos.

The break-in occurred at the doctor's office at 333 Broadway in Amityville on July 9, between 7:45 and 9 p.m.

Police said several Lord & Taylor gift cards were taken during the burglary.

Police are asking anyone with information about the theft to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential and callers are eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to an arrest.
