Cops: Sound Beach man found with gunshot wound dies

Suffolk homicide detectives said a Sound Beach man they found in his backyard with a gunshot wound to his head Sunday night was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police released few details about the case Monday night, but they identified the victim as George Markov, 41, of Whitestone Road.

Seventh Precinct officers arrived on the scene shortly after 10 p.m. to investigate a report of a man who was injured, and found Markov with a gunshot wound to his head.

He was taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, where he was pronounced dead.
