A morning rush-hour collision near the entrance to Stony Brook University left both drivers hospitalized with minor injuries and closed southbound Nicolls Road for more than an hour on Wednesday, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the crash at 7:35 a.m. involved a pickup truck and a sedan that was turning from the northbound lanes into the school.

The collision caused the pickup to overturn, police said. Police said both vehicles then caught fire.

Both drivers were taken to nearby Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment. No one was charged.

Police said the investigation is continuing.

The road reopened at about 9:30 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation website.
