All westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway reopened by midnight Wednesday, after a crash forced its closure Tuesday evening and sent the driver to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

Lanes were closed for hours west of Exit 50 after the vehicle overturned at 7:43 p.m., leaving the male driver with serious injuries. A helicopter had to land on the LIE to medevac the man, police said.

A female passenger was transported to Huntington Hospital with minor injuries.

No other cars were involved in the crash, which occurred between exits 49 and 50 in Melville, police said.

No charges have been filed, and Second Squad detectives are still investigating.

Police have not identified the driver or passenger.
