A woman was struck by a car and seriously injured Thursday night on Holbrook Road in Holbrook, police said.

Amanda Giardina, 29, of Holbrook, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital via Ronkonkoma Fire Department ambulance with what Suffolk County police described as "multiple fractures."

She was listed in serious condition, police said.

Police said the driver of the car, identified as Sean Morrison, 46, of Lake Ronkonkoma, was not injured in the crash.

The accident took place at 9:12 p.m. near the intersection of Holbrook Road and Express Drive North, police said.

Police said Morrison, driving a 2001 Volkswagen northbound on Holbrook Road, struck Giardina, who was "standing in the roadway." It was not immediately clear why Giardina was in the roadway -- and police said the investigation is ongoing.

The Volkswagen was impounded for a safety check.

Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to call Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
